Moving Image: Documentary

An evaluation of my work throughout tasks 1&2 Holly McNish was as massive inspiration for our second documentary, we were introduced to the poetic piece, Embarrassed (McNish 2016) , in a seminar and the style and pace stuck with the group. When we had finally decided on the poetic style of the 10-minute documentary we looked back at the way McNish had presented her ideas. We loved the simple shots of plants against bright backgrounds along with the striking fast cutting back and forth. During filming, we tried to re-create a similar style but tweak it to fit our themes, we had the broken glass filmed against a black background as well as our actress filmed against a white wall. I think that although the scenes of the actress worked well the scenes of the plain black wall often took away from the style that we were going for and can sometimes feel forced. For this section of the blog I will be showcasing the documents created and used throughout the production of both task 1&2 to illustrate how we worked together finish both the poetic documentary and the 5-10 minute documentary. As many of our ideas fell through half way through production I'm going to include a number of screenshots and documents of some semi-produced ideas as I believe this still illustrates how we organised ourselves and continued to do so throughout the change of ideas. Task 1 3-10 Minute Poetic documentary  "Service. A look at one mans devotion to the fire service." Analysis of a text The piece of text I decided to look at was a handout from Producing and Directing the short film and video by Peter W. Rea & David K. Irving. I chose to analysis this text for several different reasons. Firstly, I appreciated the way it had been set out on the page, information had been effectively separated into helpful chunks meaning the reader isn’t hit with an overloading about of information and forced to cherry pick the best bits. But mainly because the information it included was extremely relevant to the work I would be carrying out within teams over the comings months. One section I found helpful to read was titled How do scripts affect budgets? In this section, the idea of contingency planning money planning is briefly touched on. “[…] The writer requests an elephant for a particular scene.
